“But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one,” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 NET and NIV
“But the Master never lets us down. He’ll stick by you and protect you from evil,” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 MSG
These three versions all end the same, He will protect you from evil. How awesome is that? In every translation, Gods promise is the same! He will always protect us from evil. Always.
I don’t think the verses ending the same was done on accident. the translators obviously felt like it was important to say “and protect you from the evil one” because that was God does. He protects us from evil. He is constantly looking out for us even in bad situations He is standing right there next to you, the whole time!!
The summer before sophomore year my mom, aunt and I were robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot, I know what you’re thinking: oh my gosh that’s so scary and crazy. It was, it was completely frightening. And as scary and horrific that experience was, God was there with us, protecting us from evil. The guy got away with $12 and our sense of safety, nobody was physically hurt, God was watching over us. What happen has changed me, but not for the bad, I didn’t run away from God. I ran closer to Him at 100 mph! I saw that although what happened totally sucked; I was so blessed and He had my back the whole time. He was in control, not the robber. Since then, I am a little jumpier and a little more aware of what’s around me, but I also have had the opportunity to see God in control. In a situation that could have ended horribly wrong, God was in control, He had my back, He protected me from evil.
The fact that the end of this verse, in a lot of translations, is ‘protect you from evil’ was not a coincidence. God will always protect us from evil, even in the worst of situations.
