Faith lift Friday: Work

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24 NIV

“Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people, because you know that you will receive your inheritance from the Lord as the reward. Serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24 NET

The same verse, but totally different views.
The NIV version describes working and serving for the Lord with all your heart while the NET describes it as serving with enthusiasm for God and not for the people you are serving. They convey the same awesome message but give different perspectives.

The NIV tells us to serve with “all your heart” not to just serve for the people, but to serve for the Lord. Even when “human masters” may take advantage or not appreciate your kindness, we need to serve for the Lord. Where as the NET tells to to “work at it with enthusiasm” which, for me, sounds a little more difficult. It’s telling us to work and be excited about what we’re doing, not just get the job done and make a check on our mental list of good deeds. To want to serve the people but when serving the people we “serve the Lord Christ”.

I challenge y’all as well as myself to serve with enthusiasm and put your whole heart into it!
